GREEN LIVING
Children learn what they live.
Setu learners live a 'green' life starting from traveling compulsorily by community transport, to learning a good deal through interactions with nature, and using an eco- toilet.
Our choice of building material bears testimony to our commitment to the core principle of eco sensitivity. You will appreciate the use of rammed earth and bamboo. Furniture is made out of pine wood particle board which has already been used once for packaging.
Our science and maths exploratory is housed in Chintoo, the PMPML bus shell which we have recycled and refurbished to make into an interesting teaching space. Discarded tyres, plastic bottles and plastic bags are in evidence and demonstrate ideas and principles to children who are using them every day.
Our curriculum and time table are organized organically. Well defined curriculum objectives are pre determined. The teacher plans her day to meet these objectives using the stimulation provided by the natural and man made environment of the school. This environment includes our resident cow, cock, hens, chicks, dog and rabbits.
Inclusiveness
People are an important component of our learning environment as well. We are careful to fully include children with special needs. This teaches many valuable lessons in respect and adjustment. Our sponsorship programme ensures that we include children with financial and social handicaps as well . A healthy variety in each class contributes to greater sensitivity, cultivation of responsibility and social awareness.
Our 'green 'and 'inclusive' policies point in the direction of a more holistic and saner world. |
